1974  CESSNA 172M, LONG RANGE TANKS, GREAT CONVERSION PROJECT !!
THIS IS A VERY  NICE 172 !!!
TOTAL AIRFRAME TIME IS  6703 SNEW
VERY NICE PAINT, WITH  A PALE YELLOW UPPER, WITH RED AND LOWER WITH BLUE ACCENTS !!
VERY SHARP  AND DIFFERENT, WITHOUT BEING WIERD !!
THE GOOD INTERIOR HAS RED VINYL  SEATS HAVE TAN CLOTH INSERTS, AND SIDE PANELS ARE THE SAME
PILOT’S SEAT  HAS THE DESIRABLE INFINITE ADJUST   FEATURE, WHICH ALLOWS FOR THE PERFECT FIT  VERTICALLY, AND SEAT BACK ANGLE.
FRONT SEAT HAVE SHOULDER HARNESSES AND  HEADRESTS  ADDED
AVIONICS ARE A FULL IFR CAPABLE STACK,  INCLUDING:

THIS IS A VERY CLEAN AIRFRAME, WITH NO VISIBLE PATCHES OR DINGS  FROM HANGER RASH
THERE IS CURRENT DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT LOWER COWING AREA.
THIS AIRPLANE HIT  A DEER DURING A TOUCH AND GO LANDING !!
THE DEER DIDN’T FAIR VERY WELL,  BUT AS THE AIRPLANE STILL HAD FLYING SPEED, THE PILOT PULLED BACK, AND THE  AIRPLANE POPPED UP INTO THE AIR.
NOT QUITE SURE WHAT HAD HAPPENED, AND  SINCE THE AIRPLANE WAS FLYING FINE, HE ELECTED TO FLY HOME THE 25 MILES TO HIS  HOME AIRPORT !!
BOTH THE FLIGHT AND THE LANDING WERE  UNEVENTFUL.
THE DAMAGE DONE IS AS FOLLOWS:
RIGHT SIDE LOWER  COWLING SKIN IS DENTED AND HAS A SMALL HOLE, BUT THE DESIRABLE DOUBLE HEADLIGHT  NOSEBOWL, THE CENTER SECTION, THE LEFT SKIN, AND THE WHOLE TOP COWLING ARE  UNDAMAGED
THE SKIN ON THE RIGHT CABIN SIDE BETWEEN THE COWLING AND THE  DOOR IS SLIGHTLY PULLED BACK IN A 4″ BY 1″ SECTION, RIGHT BEHIND THE COWLING.   IT APPEARS THE THIS COULD BE MASSAGED, AND I WOULD THINK REPAIRED WITHOUT THIS  SKIN REQUIRING REPLACEMENT.
THIS SAME SKIN HAS A SLIGHT CONCAVE  APPEARANCE TO IT WHEN VIEWED FROM THE SIDE, BETWEEN THE FIREWALL AND THE FRONT  DOOR POST. THIS SKIN IS MOSTLY UNSUPPORTED IN THIS AREA, SO AGAIN IT MAY BE ABLE  TO BE MASSAGED AND POP OUT.
THE LIFT STRUT ON THIS SIDE WAS DENTED, SO WE  CUT IT OFF DURING DISASSEMBLY
THE LIFT STRUT ATTACHMENT POINT IN THE  FUSELAGE IS SLIGHTLY BENT AFT, AND WILL REQUIRE STRAIGHTENING, BUT IS NOT  BROKEN
THE DOOR ON THE RIGHT SIDE OPENS AND CLOSES FINE
DURING  RETRIEVAL, BOTH AILERON CABLES, AND THE LEFT, UNDAMAGED LIFT STRUT WERE ALSO  CUT, SORRY.
THE LYCOMING 0-320 E2D ENGINE AND PROP WERE DEEMED TO HAVE  BEEN STRUCK, SO THEY WERE REMOVED, AND ARE NOT INCLUDED  IN THIS  LISTING
THE 0-320 E2D ENGINE IS VERY COMMON, AND IS AVAILABLE IN BOTH 150  H.P. AND 160 H.P. VERSIONS (160 HAD BEEN INSTALLED IN THIS AIRFRAME), SO YOU  WILL BE ABLE TO FIND A COST EFFECTIVE REPLACEMENT, MAYBE FROM SOMEONE YOU  KNOW.
ANOTHER GREAT POSSIBILITY FOR THIS NICE AIRFRAME WOULD BE A 180  H.P. LYCOMING CONVERSION !!
UNLIKE MOST M AND N 172′S, THIS AIRPLANE  ALREADY HAS THE VERY EXPENSIVE LONG RANGE FUEL WINGS, WHICH ARE VIRTUALLY  REQUIRED FOR THE 180 H.P. CONVERSION !!
MANY PEOPLE CONVERT THIER  AIRFRAME, ONLY TO FIND THAT EXCHANGING FOR LONG RANGE WINGS AND TANKS COSTS $  8,000-$10,000 !!!!
THERE APPEARS TO BE NO DAMAGE TO THE FIREWALL SKIN AND STRUCTURE, AND NO  DAMAGE FIREWALL FORWARD (MOUNT, NOSEGEAR AND MOUNTS, ETC. ALL LOOK OK)
CONTROL  CABLES, OIL COOLER AND LINES, SCAT TUBING, TACH CABLE, ETC. ARE ALL  INTACT.
EVEN THE LORD  MOUNTS ARE THERE !!
THERE IS NO KNOWN DAMAGE THE THE LEFT SIDE OF THE  AIRPLANE, THE RIGHT DOOR BACK, OR THE TAIL OR TAIL FEATHERS.  EVEN THE GLASS AND  WINDSHIELD  ARE ALL OK !!
PRICED CHEAP  ENOUGH SO YOU CAN ADD THE ENGINE YOU WANT, DO THE SMALL REAIRS, AND HAVE A NICE  AIRPLANE, AND THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST AND CHEAPEST WAY TO GET INTO A 180 H.P.  CONVERSION !!

 1970 CESSNA 177B CARDINAL, 3500 TOTAL TIME, NICE AIRPLANE, GREAT PROJECT,

 

THE 150 H.P CARDINAL WASNT THAT GREAT. GOOD IDEA, NOT FULLY EXECUTED.
THE 177A ADDED 180 H.P., AND IT WAS BETTER, BUT IT STILL DIDN’T FULLY UTILIZE THE AERODYNAMIC ADVANCES OF THE 177 OVER THE LOWLY 172
IT WASN’T UNTIL THE 177B, LIKE THIS ONE, WHICH ALLOWED FOR THE ADDITION OF A CONSTANT SPEED PROP TO THE 180 H.P. ENGINE, THAT THE CARDINAL FINALLY WAS ABLE TO PERFORM TO IT’S FULL POTENTIAL.
THE CARDINAL REMAINED IN PRODUCTION AS THE 177B, WITH NO MAJOR CHANGES, UNTIL THE END OF IT’S PRODUCTION.
THIS IS A NICE 177B CARDINAL !!
NICE LOOKING PAINT, WELL CARED FOR
THE INTERIOR IS TAN CLOTH, AND HAS LOTS OF UPGRADES, INCLUDING 2 OF THE DESIRABLE ARTICULATING FRONT SEATS WHICH ALLOW A PILOT AND COPILOT OF ANY SIZE TO GET COMFORTABLE AND SEE OUT AS THEY LIKE.
ALL 4 SEAT HAVE HAD SHOULDER HARNESS ADDED FOR SAFETY
AS YOU CAN SEE, THE MECHANIC WHO REMOVED THE SEATS HAD DIRTY HANDS, SO THE OTHERWISE VERY NICE SEATS WILL REQUIRE A CLEAN-UP.
TOTAL AIRFRAME TIME IS A LOW 3,506 SINCE NEW
AVIONICS INCLUDED ARE A SIGTRONICS SPA-400 INTERCOM, BENDIX ADF SYSTEM, MARKER BEACON LIGHTS AND RECEIVER, AND AN AVIONICS MASTER (MORE ON THE AVIONICS LATER)
ALSO INSTALLED IS A CENTURY AUTOPILOT SYSTEM (MANY EARLY CARDINALS DO NOT HAVE AUTOPILOTS, WHICH IS A SHAME, BECAUSE A CROSS-COUNTRY AIRPLANE DESERVES ONE, AND ADDING AN STEC TO A CARDINAL IS CRAZY EXPENSIVE)   THIS AIRPLANE IS AUTOPILOT EQUIPPED !!
LAST ANNUAL INSPECTION WAS DONE THIS YEAR ON 1/27/2012
THIS AIRPLANE SUFFERED DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF A HARD WHEELS LANDING AFTER A PORPOISE ON THE RUNWAY.  WE KNOW IT WAS A PORPOISE, BECAUSE THE TAIL TIE-DOWN RING IS WORN OFF !! (NO TAIL DAMAGE OR WRINKLING SUSTAINED)
THE DAMAGE APPEARS TO BE COMPLETELY CONTAINED IN THE BOOTCOWL AREA, WHICH IS THE SKINS AND STRUCTURE BEHIND THE FIREWALL AND FORWARD OF THE DOORS.
THE NOSEGEAR, WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE FIREWALL, APPEARS TO HAVE PUSHED THE WHOLE FIREWALL BACKWARDS IN ABOUT THE MIDDLE, WHICH HAS RESULTED IN THE WRINKLES VISIBLE ON THE FORWARD FUSELAGE SIDES.
THE INTERESTING THING IS THAT THE FIREWALL SHOWS NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF BUCKLING OR DEFORMATION, IT JUST LOOKS LIKE THE WHOLE THING MOVED BACK AND SHEARED THE RIVITS WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE BOOTCOWL.  OF COURSE YOU WILL KNOW BETTER ONCE YOU GET INSIDE THE BOOTCOWL
SIMILARLY, THE ENGINE MOUNT APPEARS UNDAMAGED
THE COWLINGS UPPER AND LOWER HAVE LITTLE TO NO DAMAGE, AND ALL THREE LANDING GEAR LOOK GOOD, INCLUDING WHEEL PANTS.
THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE WINGS, TAIL, CONTROL SURFACES, OR DOORS, BUT EACH DOOR LATCH JUST MISSES THE CATCH, SO THE BOOTCOWL DAMAGE HAS MESSED WITH THE ALIGNMENT SLIGHTLY.
THE O-360 ENGINE WAS REMOVED MOUNT FORWARD, AND THE ENGINE, PROP, AND ACCESSORIES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING.
THE THROTTLE, MIXTURE AND PROP CABLES, FUEL LINE, TACH CABLE, ETC. WERE NOT CUT, AND ARE INCLUDED, AS IS THE OIL COOLER, AIR BOX, AND GASCOLATOR
EVEN THE LORD MOUNTS ARE INCLUDED
THIS AIRFRAME IS A GREAT PROJECT, AND WOULD MAKE A NICE AIRPLANE
WE HAVE REMOVED THE RADIO PANEL UNITS AND INDICATORS TO REDUCE THE COST OF THE PROJECT, BUT WHEN YOU HAVE IT REPAIRED AND ARE READY TO ADD THEM BACK, IT WILL BE EASY, SINCE WE HAVE LEFT ALL TRAYS AND WIRING INSTALLED AND INTACT.  ADD BACK ONE OR BOTH OF THE KING NAV-COMS, BOTH WITH GLIDESLOPES, THE KING TRANSPONDER (ENCODER STILL INSTALLED AND INCLUDED)
REMEMBER, THE AUTOPILOT AND INTERCOM ARE INCLUDED
